Spring has finally sprung in earnest on the Prairie. There are no more snow storms in sight. Here is a look at what is blooming in mid-April.
Four Nerve Daisy, Hymenoxys scaposa, and Texas Bluebonnets are blooming in the Little Bluestem Prairie, also known as the front yard. Winecup, Callirhoe involucrata, will add to the display soon.
More Four Nerve Daisy and Blue Eyed Grass, Sisyrinchium augustifolium.
The only "snow" on the Prairie this month is the Snowball Viburnum. A couple of days ago, I saw a humming bird sipping nectar from the Autumn Sage, Salvia greggii, at the base of the Viburnum.
This is a blue Columbine that appeared in the rain garden in the backyard prairie. I have yellow, red, maroon and white Columbines. This plant is not near any of the other colors. I do not know where the blue one came from.
This is Golden Groundsel, Packera obovata. Some of the flower stalks were damaged by the last snow storm in March, but it still put on a show. It gets better every year.
The nodding flower on a little Clematis bush.
The bright purple flowers on a Clematis vine. In front of the fountain are flowers on yet-to-be-planted tomato plants.
